Antioch is one of the oldest towns in California (founded in 1850), located in Contra Costa County, California.
It is situated in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area along the San Joaquin-Sacramento River Delta. It is a suburb of San Francisco and Oakland, with a population of approximately 100,000 people.
The town was founded by William and Joseph Smith, two brothers who named the town Smith’s Landing. Later In 1851, the town's new minister convinced the residents to change the name of the town to Antioch, named after the Biblical city of Antioch in Syria.
